Designed for writers with an idea but unsure where to begin or how to shape it into a cohesive project. This one-hour session will clarify your core message, identify your audience, give a practical starting point and outline a clear direction for your book.

• One 60-minute virtual session

• Clarification of your book’s focus, tone, and purpose

• A written summary with key insights, next steps and suggested structure

Rate: $100 flat fee

 

CRITIQUE Big-picture/Developmental Review

This service focuses on the heart, structure and flow of your manuscript. I evaluate the work at a story and paragraph level, identifying what is working, what needs strengthening and where clarity or balance is missing. This service includes:

• Structure and organization

• Flow, pacing and balance

• Voice and tone

• Character development (fiction)

• Clarity, logic gaps and inconsistencies

• Select sentence-level guidance (as needed)

• Light research (as needed)

Rate: $0.04- $0.06 per word

Final rate is confirmed after an initial review of the manuscript.

Includes:

• Margin notes throughout the manuscript

• Written editorial summary

• Virtual follow-up discussion

 

PROOFREAD Line-level/Publication Readiness

The final polish before publication, a proofread is a meticulous, line-by-line review focused solely on correctness and consistency. It does not evaluate story effectiveness or structure. This service includes:

• Grammar, spelling, and punctuation

• Consistency (names, formatting, tense, style)

• Word-level clarity and accuracy

Rate: $0.15 per word

As a thank you for trusting me with the next stage of your manuscript, a discounted rate of $0.10 per word is assessed if I previously completed your critique.

I am unable to accept a project for proofread if critique-level issues exist.

• Clean, correct manuscript

• Virtual follow-up discussion

 

COMPLETE EDIT Comprehensive/Start-to-Finish Service

This all-in-one option combines the critique and proofread into a single, cohesive project. I address global issues first, then complete a full line-level edit, returning a polished, publication-ready manuscript. This option is ideal for authors who want to hand off the entire process at once.

Rate: $0.20 per word

Includes:

• Full developmental and line-level edit

• Direct changes made in the document

• Written editorial summary

 

 

MANUSCRIPT LENGTH

Rates apply to manuscripts up to 50,000 words. For manuscripts exceeding 50,000 words, pricing remains consistent on a per-word basis; turnaround time will be confirmed after review and provided in writing prior to invoicing.

 

TURN-AROUND TIME (Monday – Friday, excluding holidays)

• Critique: 21 business days

• Proofread: 6 weeks

• Complete Edit: 10 weeks

 

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS

• Manuscripts are submitted as MS Word documents

• Word count is confirmed and invoiced

• Work begins when payment is received (or the next day if after 3pm EST)

A manuscript is considered publication-ready only after all levels have been addressed.
